Impact of COVID-19 on India
About two-thirds of people in India live in poverty. Out of which most are daily wagers, that manage their bread and butter with daily struggleotherwise they can't be able to lit their stoves.
With the surge of COVID-19 cases around the country, the PM Narendra Modi ordered complete lockdown in India on 225 March 2020. With a population of more than 1.353 billion, this lockdown can have long-lasting drastic effects.Indian has 10,363 confirmed corona cases and unfortunately, 339 people in India have lost the battle with COVID-19.A nationwide lockdown can accelerate poverty and other bigger issues in the country. People might get flared up and it can lead to an increase in friction against law enforcement agencies around the country. Furthermore, the extended lockdown would lead to a decrease in the economy that can have long-lasting effects.
PM Cares Fund in India
PM Narendra Modi has made a new corona relief fund named "PMCares" which is aimed to help the "poorest of poor" at this hour of need. There is another older relief fund founded in 1948 and has an amount of 38 billion rupees ($498.6m). The relief fund is directed to provide food and other essentials to the poorer population of the country.
